Benchmark Results
We tested each tool on five real-world tasks: building a REST API from scratch, debugging a complex React app, refactoring legacy Python code, writing comprehensive test suites, and implementing a new feature in an existing codebase.
Cursor excelled at multi-file refactoring and feature implementation. Its codebase-aware context meant it could make changes across 10+ files with a single prompt, maintaining consistency throughout.
Copilot remained king for inline autocomplete โ the real-time suggestion quality during active coding was the most fluid and least interruptive experience.
Claude Code shone in autonomous task completion. For larger tasks like "add authentication to this API," it could plan, implement, write tests, and iterate on failures without human intervention.
Our Recommendation
Use Cursor if you want the best integrated editing experience. Use Copilot if you live in VS Code and value inline suggestions. Use Claude Code for complex, multi-step tasks you want to delegate entirely.
